Oh my gosh, there’s so much to tell, where do I begin? If I start at the beginning I wouldn’t have the room. With this in mind I’ll start where it’s most relevant. I am a published author of sensual/erotic African American romance novels and novellas. My first work was published in 2008. I have been fortunate to be published with a few different publishers over the last several years. I now have the rights back for all my books, and I'm blessed, and proud to announce I am now going to self publish my books. This was not a easy decision to come to but I believe I was given this opportunity for a reason. As of September 2015 I will start re-releasing my previous books and begin releasing new books that my readers have been asking about for some time now. I am also pleased to say as a self published author I will begin publishing other books and novellas from other genres besides romance. I'm super excited to explore other creative avenues now that I have complete creative control of what I write.
Now back to a little more about me. Though I currently reside in Atlanta, GA I am not a true southern gal. I was born, and raised in the Midwest. My husband Laville and I moved our family to the south in 2002.
Reading and writing have been my first love as far back as I can remember. As a child, I spent much of my time alone being the youngest in my family. My love of reading didn’t allow this to be an unhappy time. Curled up with a good book would remain one of my favorite past times well into my teen years.
A vivid imagination compelled me to start creating stories of my own just about the time I entered high school. The turning point in what I wrote came my junior year, when my friend Doris introduced me to my first romance novel, Savage Splendor by Constance O'Banyon.
Though I was completely hooked on romance novels from that point on, it bothered me even at that young age, that there wasn’t a lot of African American books to choose from. I knew then that my stories would center around the love shared among my people. Romance is complicated, it isn't as black and white as many people would try to make it. So many relationships fail because instead of trying to make each other happy, the couples try to make PEOPLE happy. I think that's another reason I continue to create my romance novels, to encourage and inspire couples who don't necessarily fit societies views of what romance SHOULD be.
As I got older, and my life became decidedly more demanding of my time I still found the time to sneak off somewhere quite, with a good book or to write. On many an occasion I would find myself writing down an idea that came to me while in a restaurant, at a movie, at school, anywhere. Needless to say my purse was always full of paper.
Over the years much has changed in my life, the one constant variable is my love of reading and writing. With the love, support and encouragement of family and friends I finally found the courage to share my passion with others. Someone very wise, that I respect a great deal once said to me, “If you know what your gift is don’t let it go to waste because you fear rejection or ridicule.”
I love writing more than anything else in the world, with the exception of my family. When many people think of the perfect job, many times they think in terms of $$$$$. When I think of the perfect job I think how awesome to do something you love and get paid for it, truly the best of both worlds.
Well, now you know a little about me.
